R-series setae

The posteriorposterior:
the back part of the body or towards that region in comparison, e.g., 'posterior to'.
marginal or R-series (from the German, rand = margin) of setae is typically present in the soft cuticle flanking the dorsaldorsal:
relating to the upper or back side; opposed to ventral.
or opisthonotal shieldopisthonotal shield:
the posterior shield in mesostigmatans with divided dorsal shields.
in Monogynaspida (except hypertrichous groups where designations are not clear), but these setae are 'captured' by the dorsaldorsal:
relating to the upper or back side; opposed to ventral.
shield in most species of several genera (e.g., Neojordensia, Orthadenella, Proctolaelaps, and Digamasellus) and in some families (e.g., Zerconidae).

In the Phytoseiidae, the r-series is reduced to one seta (r3) and the R-series to 0–1 (R1) seta in all but two genera, which have 3 pairs of marginal setae (e.g., Ricoseius De Leon ). In many parasitic mites, however, extensive hypertichy obscures the marginal setation.
