A distaldistal:
towards the free end of an appendage.
subdivision of tarsustarsus:
(pl. tarsi) the subdistal leg segment between the tibia and the pretarsus (apotele).
I is the primitive
condition in Parasitiformes but is mostly suppressed in the Monogynaspida.
Exceptions occur in the deutonymphs of the subfamily Parasitinae, some
Rhodacaroidea, and some Eviphididae, which
retain the apicotarsusapicotarsus:
(=acrotarsus) distal subdivision of the tarsus, usually of tarsus I
(=acrotarsus). Some undescribed deutonymphs that
apparently belong to Veigaiidae also have an apicotarsusapicotarsus:
(=acrotarsus) distal subdivision of the tarsus, usually of tarsus I
. If you have an
adult mite with an apicotarsusapicotarsus:
(=acrotarsus) distal subdivision of the tarsus, usually of tarsus I
, then it does not belong in this key and is
probably a member of the Suborder Sejida (including Heterozerconoidea associated
with millipedes and centipedes) or Trigynaspida.
