A tropical and highly polyphagous aphid species.
This aphid is distributed throughout the tropics and subtropics including the Pacific Islands. It is also found in greenhouses in temperate regions.
It has a broad host range, having been recorded from species of over 70 plant families.
It is particularly important on citrus, cacao, coffee, and tea but also attacks other crops such as sugar apple, fig, and mango, and a variety of ornamentals. It has been implicated in the transmission of at least five plant viruses.
