Capitophorus elaeagni

Overview

This is a temperate and subtemperate species that feeds mostly on thistles.

Common names

None recognized.

Distribution

This aphid is globally distributed in temperate regions of the world.

Host associations

It has a host preference for thistles (Asteraceae) but switches to Elaeagnus (Elaeagnaceae) during the sexual phase of it cycle. It is also known to feed on Polygonum (Polygonaceae).

Economic importance

It is particularly important on Carduus, Cirsium, Cynara, Gerbera, and Silybum. It has not been implicated in the transmission of any plant virus.
