Aphis sambuci

Overview

A variable species that is distributed mainly in the Holarctic region.

Common names

Elder aphid.

Distribution

This aphid is distributed throughout the Holarctic region except for Japan and Korea.

Host associations

It has a strong association with elderberry (Adoxaceae) and has been recorded from many species among 17 plant families including Brassicaceae, Onagraceae, Polygonaceae, and Saxifragaceae, and others.

Economic importance

It is particularly important on elderberry, curly dock, mustard, and primrose. It has been implicated in the transmission of at least six plant viruses.
