Flowers are frequently recognizable
because of their colored, conspicuous to showy petals or petaloidpetaloid:
(adj) resembling a petal in appearance
segments.
Some plants have very small flowers not easily recognizable as such, or
obvious inflorescences in which the individual flowers are nevertheless
not easy to distinguish. Sometimes these very small flowers bear perianthperianth:
(n) collective term for the calyx and corolla of a flower; also used for floral whorl(s) in which the calyx and corolla cannot be resolved; any of the leaves or bracts surrounding the sex organs of bryophytes
whorl(s) that are narrow and ribbon-like.
The illustration for "conspicuous, +/- showy" depicts only showy flowers. Note that this state includes, in general, all flowers that are not small and inconspicuous.
