Key characters

  • setae c1, d1, e1 weakly to obviously spatulate (Figs. 1, 2, 3)
  • seta h1 subequal in length to h2 (usually inserted ventrally) (Fig. 4)
  • seta h2 weakly spatulate (could be misinterpreted as blunt if in lateral view) (Fig. 4)
  • seta f2 longer than f3 (Fig. 5)
  • coxae III-IV with one seta (3b, 4b)
  • femur II with 4 setae (d, l', bv", v')
  • genua I-II with 3 setae (d, l', l")
  • tarsus I with companion seta obviously longer than solenidion (Figs. 6, 7)
  • tarsus II with companion seta obviously shorter than solenidion (Fig. 7)
  • dorsal setae on tibiae I-II with spatulate tip (Figs. 7, 8)
  • palp tibiotarsus with one solenidion and one tapered, setiform eupathidium distally (Fig. 9), and one seta dorsally
  • setae ps1 and ps2 inserted adjacent to each other
  • male with moderately long ps1 setae (Fig. 10)
  • larva with short h2 setae (Fig. 11)

Similar species

Raoiella macfarlanei is similar morphologically to Raoiella eugeniae.

Raoiella macfarlanei: opisthosomal setae f2 68-79; setae f3 31-33; setae d on femora I-II are longer than setae d on genua I-II; palp eupathidium not divided distally.

Raoiella eugeniae: opisthosomal setae f2 40-56; setae f3 22-33; setae d on femora I-II are subequal in length to setae d on genua I-II; palp eupathidium clearly divided distally.

Remarks

This species was redescribed by Beard et al. (2018) and placed in the newly proposed macfarlanei species group.

Reports of R. macfarlanei on mango in India are considered erroneous.

Femora I-II occasionally asymmetrical with 3 or 4 setae present on either side (setae l' absent or present).
