In Stratiolaelaps, all known species have at least 37 pairs of setae on their dorsaldorsal:
relating to the upper or back side; opposed to ventral.

relating to the dorsal podosoma, the region of the idiosoma over the legs.
region these are j16, z16, s16, and r25 and in the opisthonotalopisthonotal:
dorsal opisthosoma.
region these are J15, Z15 and S15. Some species in the lamington-group have an additional 1–2 pairs of accessory setae (px23) between the J- and Z-rows in the opisthonotalopisthonotal:
dorsal opisthosoma.

In most species, the dorsaldorsal:
relating to the upper or back side; opposed to ventral.
shield setae are relatively short and do not extend to the insertion of the next seta in the the series. However, in S. marilyn (see image at right), most setae are relatively long and reach or slightly pass the insertion of the next seta in the series.
