Dendrobium bigibbum Lindl., Paxton’s Fl. Gard. 3: 25, fig. 245 (1852).
Hybrids of this species, especially the Cookstown orchid, D. bigibbum var. superbum Hort. ex Reichb.f., are raised as cut flowers and edible orchids. Sometimes these are freeze-dried and used in higher end potpourris. Native colors include intense pinks, pale pinks, and whites, often pink with a white center.
The species-complex of D. bigibbum is native to Australia but has been hybridized in many named cultivars, primarily cultivated in Southeast Asia.
