Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck, Reise Ostindien 250 (1765).

Description

The fruit of oranges may appear in several forms, as whole fruit, slices, or peels. Whole oranges in potpourri, usually vertically scored with slits 3-10 mm wide, are relatively small, about 3-4 cm high x 4-5 cm wide. Slices are usually larger, 5-7 cm in diameter x about 5 mm thick. Peels are usually broadly triangular, about 4-6 cm long x about 2 mm thick.

Nativity and distribution

Citrus sinensis is probably native to southeastern Asia but widely cultivated in the tropics and subtropics.
