Artocarpus altilis (Parkinson) Fosberg, J. Wash. Acad. Sci. 31: 95 (1941).
Tiny dried breadfruits, about 3-8 cm long, occasionally appear in upper end potpourris with a tropical theme. At maturity, the aggregate fruit is the size of a football, pale green and warty skinned, sterile or bearing seeds. The mealy flesh is usually white or yellowish and is eaten like potatoes, boiled, fried, or baked.
Breadfruit is native to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu but widely cultivated elsewhere for its fruits.
