Diagnosis

Bothrispa can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

  • the lateral margins of the pronotumpronotum:
    occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
    and the elytra without long, stiff spines
  • the head without a frontal horn, medial sulcus absent
  • the pronotumpronotum:
    occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
    with a seta in each anterior angle
  • the apex of the elytra without a tooth-like projection
  • the elytra with 8 rows of punctures at base which expands to 10 apically and 3 regular costae
  • the antennae thickened at apex, not clavate, reaches beyond base of pronotumpronotum:
    occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
    , with 8-antennomeres
  • the prosternumprosternum:
    contains two anterior coxal cavities
    does not expand anteriorly to partly cover the mouth

Description

Head: vertexvertex:
occupies the area behind and between the eyes
with depression between eyes, surface alutaceous; medial sulcus absent; fronsfrons:
upper anterior portion of head capsule above the clypeus
projecting.

Antenna: with 8‑antennomeres; reaches to humerus; antennomere 1 flattened laterally; 2 as wide as long, cylindrical; 3 longer than 1 or 2; 4 to 7 transverse; 8 hirsute, pointed club.

Pronotum: wider than long, convex; densely punctate, except for small portion of disc; margined laterally; tooth present in anterior angle; basal impression present.

Scutellum: cuspidate.

Elytron: lateral and apical margins strongly dentate; with 8 rows of punctures at base, expands to 10 beyond middle; sutural margin carinate; tricostate, none united.

Leg: profemur expanded to apex.
