Balyana (Balyana) can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:
Elongate; parallel-sided; convex; elytra at base wider than pronotumpronotum:
occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
; color yellowish to black; 7.0-9.5 mm in length.
Head: vertexvertex:
occupies the area behind and between the eyes
punctate; with 2 transverse sulci above antennal insertions; tubercles absent at base of antennae; clypeusclypeus:
usually quadrangular, elongate; joined to the labrum
pubescent, emarginate; labrumlabrum:
triangular, joined to the clypeus and the oral orifice
short, curved, pubescent.
Antenna: short; rigid; with 7- or 8-antennomeres; apical antennnomere slightly longer than preceding 2 combined, punctate.
Pronotum: lateral margin emarginate at base, sinuate; anterior margin with a triangular projection over head; anterior and posterior angles acute; surface with depressions medially and laterally.
Scutellum: triangular; punctate.
Elytron: lateral margin straight, narrowly margined; exterior apical angle rounded; humerus rounded, not produced; with 10 rows of punctures interrupted by longitudinal and transverse carinae forming an irregular net-like sculpture.
Leg: tibiatibia:
variable in length; joins femur and tarsus
dilated apically, with small tooth near apex.
