Diagnosis

Callispa (Callispa) can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

  • body oval or ovate, convex
  • lateral margin of pronotumpronotum:
occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
and elytra without long, stiff spines
  • pronotum pronotum:
occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
with seta in each posterior angle, anterior angle distinctly rounded
  • elytra with scutellar row of punctures
  • antennae reaches to humerus, robust to thick, antennomere 3 not 3x length of 2, 3 longest
  • tarsomere 2 not concealed by setae of tarsomere 3
  • head with triangular projection between antennae, eyes large and convex
  • pronotum pronotum:
occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
    with distinct lateral impressions
  • suture between abdominal sterna 1 and 2 obsolete medially

Description

Body oblong-ovate; convex; 3 to 10 mm (mostly 4 to 6).

Head: small; with triangular projection between antennal bases; labrumlabrum:
triangular, joined to the clypeus and the oral orifice
elongate, subemarginate; maxillary palps large, with palpomere 1 small, 2 claviform, 3 oval, 4 ovate, pointed at apex; eyeeye:
elongate, slightly prominent, multifaceted; usually slightly kidney-shaped
large, convex.

Antenna: reaches to humerus; robust, thick; antennomere 1 subglobose; 2 cylindrical, longer than 1; 3 as long as 1 and 2 combined; 4 to 10 decreasing in length, cylindrical; 11 longer than 10, pointed at apex.

Pronotum: transverse; convex; lateral margin rounded, margined; anterior angle rounded; anterior margin straight or slightly rounded; posterior margin bisinuate; posterior angle acute; surface with lateral impression on each side.

Scutellum: small; quadrate or triangular.

Elytron: oval, oblong; lateral margin smooth; exterior apical angle rounded; apex rounded; humerus rounded, slightly produced; with 10 row of punctures, scutellar row absent; no costae.

Venter: prosternumprosternum:
contains two anterior coxal cavities
flat, slightly dilated apically; mesosternummesosternum:
narrow between middle coxae, separated from metasternum by a transverse suture; forming the anterior part of the middle coxal cavities
same width as prosternumprosternum:
contains two anterior coxal cavities
; suture between abdominal sterna 1 and 2 obsolete medially.

Leg: short; robust; tibiatibia:
variable in length; joins femur and tarsus
obliquely truncate at apex.
