Type Species

Alurnus ferrugineus Fabricius.

Diagnosis

Anisodera can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

  • body more or less cylindrical
  • lateral margin of pronotumpronotum:
occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
and elytra without long, stiff spines
  • head without frontal horn between antennae
  • pronotum pronotum:
occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
with seta in each anterior angle
  • apex of elytra without tooth-like projection
  • elytra with costae
  • antennae not thickened apically, apical 4 antennomeres similar to others
  • labrum labrum:
triangular, joined to the clypeus and the oral orifice
large, with single row of setae along anterior margin

Description

Large (9 to 20 mm); parallel-sided; elongate; color varies from chestnut-brown to dark brown to black; shiny.

Head: large; eyeeye:
elongate, slightly prominent, multifaceted; usually slightly kidney-shaped
slightly convex; labrumlabrum:

large, notched medially, with single row of setae along anterior margin; mandible large, triangular, bidentate; maxillary palps with palpomeres 2 to 3 obconic, 4 oval.

Antenna: ½ body length; robust, filiform; with 11-antennomeres; antennomere 1 thick; 2 wider than 3; 3 longer than 2; 1 to 6 punctate, narrow; 7 to 10 cylindrical.

Pronotum: transverse; lateral margin straight; anterior margin not emarginate medially; posterior margin nearly straight; surface punctate, some species with longitudinal sulci.

Scutellum: oblong; rounded at apex.

Elytron: lateral margin straight; exterior apical angle rounded; apex rounded; strongly punctate-striate, punctures confused laterally; even interspaces costate apically.

Venter: prosternumprosternum:
contains two anterior coxal cavities
narrow, slightly rounded between coxae.

Leg: long, robust.
