About bee mites

These illustrations show basic bee morphology along with areas on the bee body that harbor mites. Cavities within the bee's body are called acarinariaacarinarium:
A specialized morphological structure that facilitates retention of mites on the body of an organism, typically a bee or wasp.
. Phoreticphoretic:
Pertaining to phoresy; using another organism (i.e., a host) for dispersal to new habitats. Phoresy can be distinguished from parasitism because feeding typically does not occur during phoresy.
mites may also latch onto intersegmental spaces on the bee's body.

Note that internal areas (tracheae and air sacs) that may bear parastic mites and areas where mites may be plainly visible, are not shown.
