Monneoncideres

Diagnostic Features

Description

Elongate-ovate, moderate sized, about 14–15 mm in length. Integument generally dark brown or ferrugineous with whitish, ferrugineous, and ochraceous pubescence. Head with frons elongate, about as wide as width of two lower eye lobes. Eyes with lower lobes large, oblong. Genae with subquadrate to slightly transverse, distinctly shorter than lower eye lobes. Antennal tubercles prominent, widely separated; tubercles not armed at apex (females) or armed with a small projection (males). Antennae about as long as overall body length; scape clavate, about as long as antennomere IV; antennomere III slightly curved, longer than scape and antennomere IV. Pronotum strongly transverse, roughly cylindrical to conical, slightly narrower at base, with acute, lateral tubercles; pronotal disk with distinct glabrous area at center. Elytra with sides slightly attenuate; elytral apices individually rounded; elytra generally uniform in coloration; base of elytra with several round, shiny tubercles at humeri; tubercles extending along an arcuate, strongly elevated crest to basal 1/3 of elytra. Basal 1/3 of elytra without punctation or with dense punctation, surface finely punctate. Procoxae without projection. Mesosternal process with apex feebly to deeply emarginate. Metafemora moderate to short in length, about 1/3–1/4 as long as elytra.

Diagnosis

The combination of the following characters will help to distinguish this genus: distinctly large eyes; distinct glabrous area at center of pronotal disk; and strongly elevated crest to basal 1/3 of elytra.
