Potential problems with identification

Diabrotica underwoodi Bowditch is similar to D. curvilineata Jacoby, D. c1n and D. pl1n. They can be separated by the following features: head is black in D. underwoodi, but yellow in D. curvilineata and D. c1n; scutellumscutellum:
small, usually triangular shield between the bases of elytra
is black or amber brown in D. underwoodi, but yellow in all other species; tibiae are yellow in D. underwoodi, but black in D. curvilineata and D. c1n; antennae are filiformfiliform:
slender antennae with antennomeres of similar shape
in D. underwoodi, serrateserrate:
in reference to antennae, saw-like, often with a sharp ridge on the outer margin
or moniliformmoniliform:
(here) antennae with bead-like, slightly elongate and swollen antennomeres
in D. pl1n.
