Zeugodacus cucurbitae
Description
Typical of Zeugodacus larvae with the following specific characteristics for the third instar:
Body. Medium-sized; body length 9-11 mm.
Head. Cephalic lobes well-developed.
Stomal organ: primary lobe with 2 or 3 small peg sensilla.
Stomal region: 6-7 large preoral lobes, resembling oral ridges. Number of oral ridges 17-23, margins with uniform teeth. Accessory plates interlocking with oral ridges.
Cephalopharyngeal skeleton. Mandibles: subapical teeth present, much smaller than apical tooth, delicate, well-defined.
Anterior spiracles. Number of anterior spiracular tubules 16-20.
Posterior spiracles. Number of dorsal spiracular processes 6-12; number of ventral processes 6-12; number of lateral processes 4-6.
