Use this tool to identify adult fruit flies of the genus Bactrocera, and its closely allied genera Zeugodacus, Dacus, and Monacrostichus (Diptera: Tephritidae: Dacinae: Dacini). The tool covers all species of Dacini globally except those native to the African continent.
Not all dacine fruit fly species can be identified confidently to species level using morphology alone. In particular, members of species complexes (as indicated in the tool) will often need additional data, such as molecular (DNA), rearing records, biogeographic origin, male lure, etc. Use at your own discretion. This key is under active development; please e-mail questions, comments, or suggestions to camiel.doorenweerd@hawaii.edu.
