No available information.
Quinquelocular pores present; cerarian setae truncate; 17 main pairs of cerarii, with intermediate cerarii present between main cerarii; translucent pores absent from hind legs; multilocular pores usually on segments V-VIII; circulus much wider than long; 1 pair of ostioles.
Rastrococcus spinosus is similar to R. invadens Williams by having multilocular pores on segments V-VIII; 1 pair of ostioles; multilocular pores absent near body margin; cerarii numbering 17 pairs; cerarian setae truncate. Rastrococcus spinosus can be distinguished (characters in parentheses are for R. invadens) by lacking translucent pores on the hind legs (present) and by having many cerarian type setae between the main cerarii (few normally confined to anterior abdominal segments and thorax).
This species was intercepted at U. S. ports-of-entry 7 times between 1995 and 2012, with specimens originating from Cambodia, Laos, The Philippines, and Vietnam. We also have examined specimens taken in quarantine from The Philippines (Lansium); Singapore (Tabernaemontana). ScaleNet lists hosts in 19 plant families. It is most commonly intercepted on mango and mangosteen. ScaleNet distribution records for R. spinosus include several countries in the Oriental zoogeographic region. Four species of Rastrococcus other than R. iceryoides(Green), R. invadens (Green), and R. spinosus have been taken at U. S. ports-of-entry including: R. expeditionis Williams (Vietnam, on Dimocarpus); R. biggeri Williams & Watson (Vietnam, The Philippines and Thailand, on Nephelium); R. jabadiu Williams (Indonesia, The Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, on Ficus, Nephelium, Stephanotis and Stropanthus); The Philippinesand R. tropicasiatics Williams (The Philippines and Vietnam, on Mangifera, Murraya and Nephelium).
