Fact Sheets
Detailed fact sheets for each species and several higher groups are provided under the Fact Sheets menu item. Fact sheets are
initially arranged alphabetically; clicking "List in taxonomic order" will list taxa by subfamily, tribe, and genus. Species-level fact sheets contain
information on taxonomy, adult recognition, larval morphology, biology (including host plants), distribution, references, and photo credits (if applicable).
Genus and tribal-level fact sheets contain information on taxonomy, a general overview of the group, a list of taxa covered in TortAI, selected links,
and references. Fact sheets are formatted to be printed on standard 8.5 x 11" paper (if desired), and the print command in most web browsers will remove footers
and backgrounds from the fact sheets for easy printing.
Figures on the fact sheets were photographed by the authors of TortAI unless otherwise stated. All figures are available in three sizes and require Javascript
for display. A thumbnail (80 x 80px) is displayed on the right side of the page. Placing the mouse cursor on the thumbnail will display a larger image (300 x 300px)
on the left side of the page. Clicking on the thumbnail will display a much larger image in the center of the page. Large images are 1300 x 1000px, but are designed
to scale to the size of the web browser window. Large images have a set of controls at the bottom of each image; these have the functions outlined below:
Information in the fact sheets was obtained from the references provided with the exception of the taxonomy and host plants sections, and the following resources
are not cited on each fact sheet (links require an internet connection and open in a new window).
Taxonomic information was retrieved from the Online World Catalogue of the Tortricidae:
Baixeras, J., J. W. Brown & T. M. Gilligan. 2010. T@RTS: Online World Catalogue of the Tortricidae (Version 1.4.0). http://www.tortricidae.com/catalogue.asp.
The bulk of host plant information was obtained from the Food plant database of the leafrollers of the world:
Brown, J. W., G. Robinson & J. A. Powell. 2008. Food plant database of the leafrollers of the world (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) (Version 1.0.0).
http://www.tortricidae.com/foodplants.asp.
In many cases, additional host plant information was obtained from the references provided for each taxon. All plant family assignments were cross-checked
against the USDA Plants database. Common names for each species (when available) were also assigned using the USDA Plants database:
USDA, NRCS. 2012. The PLANTS Database (http://plants.usda.gov, 7 January 2012). National Plant Data Team, Greensboro, NC 27401-4901 USA.
Other plant names not in the USDA Plants database were cross-checked against the International Plant Names Index:
International Plant Names Index (2008). Published on the Internet http://www.ipni.org.
