Stamens usually arise directly from the receptacle, in between the perianth and the ovary or style. Sometimes they are partly or wholly fused to the perianth. It may be necessary to cut open the flower or pull the perianth apart from the flower to see if the stamens are fused to it.

stamens fused to perianth Filaments may be fused to the perianth at the very base or further up on the perianth, as shown. On the right the filaments are completely fused with the perianth and the anthers are sessile. |
