Corolla tube formation

Use this feature to determine if flower petals (not sepals, though these may form a tube) are free or fused into a tube. Note that petals may be closely appressed but not fused.

Note: if you have Asteraceae heads, this feature applies only to disc florets, not ray florets.

petals not fused, not forming a tube

Use this state if petals are completely distinct or fused only at the very base and not appearing to be a tube.

petals fused, forming a tube

Tubes are of various shapes and sizes (see the feature Corolla or perianth tube shape).

some petals fused, others free, or all fused into an open (split) tube

Also use this state if a tube is only partially split.
