Modern gerberas are probably hybrids of Gerbera jamesonii Bol. ex Adlam. and G. viridifolia (DC.) Schultz-Bip., but are frequently called G. jamesonii. G. jamesonii is native to South Africa, and G. viridifolia is native to a wider swath of Africa. Gerberas are used primarily as cut flowers.
