Pseudothysanoes

Type species

Pseudothysanoes drakei Blackman

Adapted from Wood 1982, p. 510-555

Diagnosis

Pseudothysanoes can be distinguished from the similar Thysanoes LeConte by the wider than long pronotumpronotum:
the upper or dorsal surface of the first thoracic segment
. Also, they lack the long hair-like setaehair-like setae:
setae that are thin and similar to a hair
on the clubclub:
the apical segment of the insect antennae that is enlarged or thickened such that it is anatomically differentiated from the preceding segments
.

Description

Species in this genus range from 0.7 to 2.0 mm in length and are approximately 2.0 to 2.8 times as long as wide. Their color ranges from yellowish brown to black. The pronotumpronotum:
the upper or dorsal surface of the first thoracic segment
is as wide as or wider than long and asperateasperate:
of a surface or texture which is rough
on its anterior half. The scutellumscutellum:
a shield-like bony plate or scale, as on the thorax of some insects
is small. The declivitydeclivity:
the apical portion of the beetle elytra that slopes downward
is convex and is either unarmedunarmed:
having no granules, teeth, tubercles, spines, or other protective structures
or has small spines. The vestiturevestiture:
a surface covering of scales or setae on the body, wing, or other appendage
consists of erect, scale-like setaescale-like setae:
setae that are wider than hair
, is light and contrasting with their usually dark body color, and is wider apically. The anterior margin of the eye is entire. The scapescape:
the first and basal segment of the insect's antennae
is shorter than the 6-segmented funiclefunicle:
the antennal segments located between the scape and the club in some Coleoptera
and has long setaesetae:
a hollow, often slender and hair-like cuticular projection
. The oval to elongate clubclub:
the apical segment of the insect antennae that is enlarged or thickened such that it is anatomically differentiated from the preceding segments
varies in size and the number of suturessutures:
a seam or seam-like line of contact between two sclerites or hardened body parts immovably connected
ranges from none to two; these are procurvedprocurved:
pertaining to structure (antennae, setae) which is basally perpendicular to the body and whose apical part is curved anteriorly
when present. The procoxaeprocoxae:
extra segment occasionally preceding coxa (hip joint) of the first or anterior pair of legs of arthropods
are separated.
