Dryoxylon

Diagnosis

A recently described and monospecificmonospecific:
a genus that only contains one known species
genus of the subtribe Dryocoetina. This genus is similar to Dendrocranulus Schedl; it can be separated from the Xyleborina by the absence of a depresseddepressed:
a structure that is flattened or impressed
pregular region. It can be distinguished from the other Dryocoetina by the notch on the anterior margin of the pronotumpronotum:
the upper or dorsal surface of the first thoracic segment
.

Description

The only species in this genus ranges from 1.9 to 2.3 mm in length with a body proportion of 3.3 times long as wide. The coloration is yellowish brown. The pronotumpronotum:
the upper or dorsal surface of the first thoracic segment
is longer than wide and asperateasperate:
of a surface or texture which is rough
on the anterior third, and it is distinctly notched at the middle of the anterior margin. The scutellumscutellum:
a shield-like bony plate or scale, as on the thorax of some insects
is small and flush with the elytraelytra:
the two external and hardened or sclerotized forewings of adult Coleoptera, often appearing leather-like in texture
. The declivitydeclivity:
the apical portion of the beetle elytra that slopes downward
is sulcatesulcate:
having narrow, deep furrows or grooves
and unarmedunarmed:
having no granules, teeth, tubercles, spines, or other protective structures
. The vestiturevestiture:
a surface covering of scales or setae on the body, wing, or other appendage
consists of erect yellowish hair-like setaehair-like setae:
setae that are thin and similar to a hair
which is more abundant on the declivitydeclivity:
the apical portion of the beetle elytra that slopes downward
. The pregular area is not depresseddepressed:
a structure that is flattened or impressed
. The anterior margin of the compound eye is emarginateemarginate:
notched or indented
. The scapescape:
the first and basal segment of the insect's antennae
is longer than the 5-segmented funiclefunicle:
the antennal segments located between the scape and the club in some Coleoptera
. The clubclub:
the apical segment of the insect antennae that is enlarged or thickened such that it is anatomically differentiated from the preceding segments
is obliquely truncateobliquely truncate:
pertaining to a structure abruptly and concavely cut
, without any indication of suturessutures:
a seam or seam-like line of contact between two sclerites or hardened body parts immovably connected
. The precoxae are contiguouscontiguous:
sharing an edge or boundary; touching
.
