Rhagoletis nova



Description

Typical of Rhagoletis larvae with the following specific characteristics for the 3rd instar:

Body. Small; body length 5-6 mm.

Head. Stomal region: Large amount of sclerotized stomal guards present (exact number unclear). Short oral ridges present; number of oral ridges 5–13; margins entire. Accessory plates absent.

Anterior spiracles. Anterior spiracle appears bilobed. Number of anterior spiracular tubules ~23; in a single irregular row.

Posterior spiracles. Slits at least 6-8x longer than wide. Dorsal spiracular processes of medium length, with numerous trunks. Number of dorsal spiracular processes 8–11. Number of ventral spiracular processes 8–11. Number of lateral spiracular processes 8–11.
