Carpomya incompleta





Description

Typical of Carpomya larvae with the following specific characteristics for the third instar:

Body. Body length 6.8-7.2 mm.

Head. Stomal region: 3-4 sclerotized stomal guards present. Number of oral ridges 4, dentate margins with long teeth. Accessory plates absent.

Anterior spiracles. Number of anterior spiracular tubules 15-18.

Spinules and creeping welts. Dorsal spinules on T1-A6, or with unusual distribution.

Posterior spiracles. Slits ~4x longer than wide. Dorsal spiracular processes with only 1 or 2 trunks. Number of dorsal spiracular processes generally 1, sometimes 2. Number of ventral spiracular processes generally 1, sometimes 2. Number of lateral spiracular processes generally 1, sometimes 2. Average number of tips on dorsal and ventral spiracular processes ranges 1-2; ratio of number of tips to number of trunks ~1. Area between posterior spiracles rugose.
