Typical of Anastrepha larvae with the following specific characteristics for the third instar:
Body. Body length 6.7–9mm (7.5–9.0~WEH; 6.7–8.9~Steck et al.).
Head. Cephalic lobes moderately developed. Stomal organ: number of peg sensilla three (short, stout); peg sensilla unbranched; other peg-sensilla-like structures absent. Stomal region: Number of oral ridges 8–13; margins scalloped, or emarginate, or occasionally incised ("short, widely spaced, bluntly rounded teeth"). Accessory plates present (3–4 small, shell-like); number of accessory plates 4 (~~); margins unserrated, or serrated (some1/2,~WEH; 1~LEC).
Spinules and creeping welts. Dorsal spinules on segments T1, or T1-T2, or T1-T3.
Anterior spiracles. Anterior spiracular tubules 9–15.
Caudal segment (a8) and anal lobes. Anal lobes plainly visible, but not protuberant; simple, or grooved.
Posterior spiracles. Posterior spiracles: slits 3x longer than wide (about). Dorsal spiracular processes with numerous trunks arising from a short or semicircular base, or with fewer trunks radiating from a short or semicircular base (medium processes). Number of dorsal spiracular processes 9–16. Number of ventral spiracular processes 9–16. Number of lateral spiracular processes 4–7.
