Type Species

Hispa truncata Fabricius.

Diagnosis

Temnocthispa can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

  • the lateral margins of the pronotumpronotum:
    occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
    and the elytra without long, stiff spines
  • the head without a frontal horn, medial sulcus present
  • the pronotumpronotum:
    occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
    with a seta in each anterior angle
  • the apex of the elytra without a tooth-like projection
  • the elytra with 8 rows of punctures at base which expands to 10 apically and 3 regular costae
  • the antennae thickened at apex, not clavate, reaches beyond base of pronotumpronotum:
    occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
    , with 8-antennomeres
  • the prosternumprosternum:
    contains two anterior coxal cavities
    does not expand anteriorly to partly cover the mouth

Description

Head: medial sulcus present; sulcus present on inner margin of eyeeye:
elongate, slightly prominent, multifaceted; usually slightly kidney-shaped
.

Antenna: with 8-antennomeres; antennomere 1 subglobose, slightly compressed laterally; 2 to 7 transverse, 3 longer than 2; 8 elongate club, pointed at apex.

Pronotum: much narrower than base of elytra; slightly constricted behind head; tooth present in anterior angle; lateral margin curved.

Scutellum: quadrate.

Elytron: lateral and apical margins dentate; with 8 regular puncture rows plus scutellar row; additional puncture row present on apical ½; tricostate, costae 1 and 2 more elevated than 3.

Leg: femora or pro- and mesofemora toothed; tarsal claws without tooth.

Brazil, Ecuador, French Guiana.
