Synonomys

None.

Type Species

Sternocthispa gracillima Uhmann.

Diagnosis

Sternocthispa can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

  • the lateral margins of the pronotumpronotum:
occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
and the elytra without long, stiff spines
  • the head without a frontal horn
  • the pronotumpronotum:
occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
with a seta in each anterior angle
  • the apex of the elytra without a tooth-like projection
  • the elytra with 8 rows of punctures plus short scutellar row, with 3 regular costae
  • the antennae thickened at apex, not clavate, with 7-antennomeres, last antennomere rounded at apex
  • the prosternumprosternum:
    contains two anterior coxal cavities
expanding anteriorly to partly cover the mouth

Description

Head: trisulcate; micropunctate.

Antenna: with 7‑antennomeres; antennomere 1 transverse; 2 and 3 cylindrical, subequal in length; 4 to 6 transverse; 7 enlarged, hirsute club, nearly as long as 1 to 6 combined, pointed at apex.

Pronotum: as wide as long, convex; lateral margin sinuate; tooth present in anterior angle; medial carina present; with large, shallow punctures; surface distinctly micropunctate; basal impression present.

Scutellum: quadrate; micropunctate.

Elytron: at base much wider than pronotumpronotum:
occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
, elongate, parallel‑sided; lateral margin serrate; apical margin dentate, laminate; exterior apical angle rounded; with 8 rows of punctures plus scutellar row; tricostate; costa 1 more elevated on apical ½; 2 and 3 elevated for entire length.

Leg: apical tarsomere with two claws; small tooth present at base of each tarsal claw; femurfemur:
largest part of the leg; more or less cylindrical, attached at base to trochanter and at apex to tibia
punctate.

Venter: prosternumprosternum:
contains two anterior coxal cavities
produced, partially concealing mouth; 5 visible abdominal sterna.
