Diagnosis

Sinispa can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

  • lateral margin of pronotumpronotum:
    occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
    and elytra with long, stiff spines
  • antennomere 1 with long spine, 2 to 6 each with short spine
  • anterior margin of pronotumpronotum:
    occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
    with branched spine on each side
  • tarsal claws fused basally, divergent

Description

Body; subparallel; subconvex; color black; total length 4.4 to 4.9 mm.

Head: small; convex; vertexvertex:
occupies the area behind and between the eyes
punctate, with medial sulcus; eyeeye:
elongate, slightly prominent, multifaceted; usually slightly kidney-shaped
large, flattened.

Antenna: reaches to humerus; expanding apically; with 11-antennomeres; antennomere 1 with long spine; 2 to 6 each with short spine; 1 incrassate, 2x length of 2; 2 subcylindrical; 3 obconic, 1½x length of 2; 4 to 6 short, transverse; 7 to 10 transverse, thicker; 11 longer than 10, pointed at apex.

Pronotum: transverse; lateral margin rounded, with 3 spines on common base (3); anterior angle rounded; anterior margin with branched spine with common base on each side; posterior angle acute; posterior margin weakly bisinuate; convex; surface with white setae.

Scutellum: cordate.

Elytron: lateral margin straight, with long spines; exterior apical angle rounded, with spines; apical margin rounded, with spines; humerus rounded; with 8 rows of punctures plus scutellar row, each puncture with seta; non-costate; disc with spines.

Leg: tarsal claws fused basally, divergent.
