Diagnosis

Serratispa can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

• the lateral margins of the pronotumpronotum:
  occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
  and the elytra lacking long, stiff spines
• the head lacking a frontal horn
• the pronotumpronotum:
  occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
  with a seta in each anterior angle
• the apex of the elytra lacking a tooth-like projection
• the antennae being not thickened at the apex
• the antennae having 11-antennomeres with the apical four being different from the others (either longer or shorter, thinner or thicker, more pubescent, different in color)
• the body being more or less convex
• the legs being short
• the sides of the of the elytra not being nearly vertical from costa 3
• the elytra with four prominent costae with the lateral margins rounded

Description

Ovid, castanaceous with paler yellowish markings; legs yellowish.

Head: vertexvertex:
occupies the area behind and between the eyes
depressed, coarsely punctate with a seta arising from each puncture; medial carina present; interantennal carina present; fronsfrons:
upper anterior portion of head capsule above the clypeus
not projecting.

Antenna: with 11-antennomeres; antennomere 1 cylindrical, longer than 2; 2 transverse; 3 to 5 cylindrical, each shorter than 1; 6 to 10 transverse; 11 pointed at apex; 1 to 3 punctate; 4 to 5 with few pale setae; 6 to 11 darkly setose.

Pronotum: anterior angle rounded; lateral margin straight and convergent for basal ½, then rounded and convergent; posterior angle acute; pair of setae present on anterior margin behind head.

Scutellum: cordate (heart-shaped) with diamond-shaped sulci on lateral margin; micropunctate.

Elytron: narrowing to apex; exterior apical angle rounded, sparsely dentate; humerus rounded; with 11 rows of punctures at base, 10 on rest; punctures in rows 4 to 10 larger than rest; highly sculptured, with 4 horizontal plicae on disc not reaching suture; interspaces 2 and 3 carinate on basal ¼, carinae unite just behind humerus; shallow depression present on interspaces 4 to 9 behind humerus; interspaces 1-3 carinate on apical ¼; interspace 4 carinate along edge of depression.
