Diagnosis

Rhodtrispa can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

• lateral margin of pronotumpronotum:
  occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
  and elytra with long, stiff spines
• body small, subparallel
• head with interocular space 1½x width of an eyeeye:
  elongate, slightly prominent, multifaceted; usually slightly kidney-shaped
  , not constricted basally
• antennomere 1 with spine
• pronotum pronotum:
  occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
  with anterior margin with branched spine on each side
• elytra with spines on disc
• tarsal claws not fused, symmetrical

Description

Body small, oblong; subparallel; subconvex; color black with metallic reflections; total length 3.0 to 3.4 mm.

Head: small; convex; not constricted basally; vertexvertex:
occupies the area behind and between the eyes
rugose, with interocular space 1½x width of an eyeeye:
elongate, slightly prominent, multifaceted; usually slightly kidney-shaped
.

Antenna: reaches to base of pronotumpronotum:
occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
; slightly thickening apically; with 11-antennomeres; antennomere 1 incrassate, without spine; 2 short, subcylindrical; 3 cylindrical, longer than 2; 4 subequal in length to 2; 1 to 6 sulcate; 7 to 11 pubescent.

Pronotum: transverse; lateral margin rounded, with 3 spines- 2 on common base and a single (2+1); anterior angle rounded; anterior margin curved forward, with branched spine on each side; posterior angle acute; posterior margin bisinuate; surface punctate, with weak transverse impression basally, with scattered short yellowish setae.

Scutellum: pentagonal.

Elytron: lateral margin straight, with long spines; exterior apical angle rounded, with long spines; apical margin rounded, with long spines; humerus angulate, not produced; with 8 rows of punctures plus scutellar row basally, 9 rows medially, 10 rows apically; disc with irregularly placed erect spines.

Venter: covered with short yellowish setae.

Leg: tarsal claws not fused, symmetrical.

Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Eritrea, Ethiopia, India, Laos, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam.

World Fauna

Described species: 1- Rhodtrispa dilaticornis (Duvivier) (Staines 2012).

Arthraxon, Oryza, Panicum (Poaceae).
