Diagnosis

Parvispa can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

  • the lateral margins of the pronotumpronotum:
    occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
    and the elytra without long, stiff spines
  • the head without a frontal horn
  • the pronotumpronotum:
    occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
    with a seta in each anterior angle
  • the apex of the elytra without a tooth-like projection
  • the elytra with 8 rows of punctures for entire length, plus short scutellar row, with 3 carinate costae, costae 1 and 3 unite near apex
  • the antennae thickened at apex, but not clavate, with 7-antennomeres
  • the prosternumprosternum:
    contains two anterior coxal cavities
    does not expand anteriorly to partly cover the mouth
  • leg with tarsomere 3 deeply bilobed

Description

Head: medial sulcus deep, long; longitudinal carina present on each side of medial sulcus; vertexvertex:
occupies the area behind and between the eyes
alutaceous; row of deep punctures present around eyeeye:
elongate, slightly prominent, multifaceted; usually slightly kidney-shaped
.

Antenna: with 7‑antennomeres; antennomeres 1 and 2 subglobular; 3 transverse; 4 to 6 as long as wide; 7 hirsute club.

Pronotum: as wide as long; finely margined laterally; lateral margin bisinuate; longitudinal callus present; transverse basal depression present; large deep punctures present over entire surface.

Scutellum: quadrate, alutaceous.

Elytron: apex conjointly rounded; with 8 rows of punctures plus scutellar row; tricostate; costae 1 and 3 united on apical fifth; costa 2 not reaching union of 1 and 3; costae carinate, uniform in height, no depressions or interruptions; sutural margin elevated.

Leg: tarsomere 3 deeply bilobed; 4 barely projecting beyond lobes of 3.
