Synonomys

None.

Type Species

Leptispa atricolor Pic.

Diagnosis

Ovotispa can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

  • body elongate-ovate, convex
  • lateral margin of pronotumpronotum:
occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
and elytra without long, stiff spines
  • head without frontal horn between antennae, clypeusclypeus:
usually quadrangular, elongate; joined to the labrum
    large
  • pronotum pronotum:
occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
    with seta in anterior angle
  • elytra without tooth-like projection at apex, without tubercles or costae
  • mesosternum mesosternum:
narrow between middle coxae, separated from metasternum by a transverse suture; forming the anterior part of the middle coxal cavities
    short
  • apex of mesotibia reaches beyond hind coxa

Description

Body elongate-ovate; convex; color metallic blue.

Head: large; vertexvertex:
occupies the area behind and between the eyes
sparsely punctate, medial sulcus absent; eyeeye:
elongate, slightly prominent, multifaceted; usually slightly kidney-shaped

Antenna: with 11-antennomeres; reaches to base of pronotumpronotum:
occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
.

Pronotum: transverse; convex; lateral margin slightly sinuate; anterior angle rounded; anterior margin emarginate medially; posterior margin bisinuate; surface irregularly punctate; basal impression absent.

Scutellum: quadrate; impunctate.

Elytron: expanding apically; lateral margin smooth; exterior apical angle rounded; apex rounded, apical margin smooth; sutural angle without tooth; humerus rounded; finely punctate-striate.

Venter: pro-, meso-, and metasterna punctate; mesosternummesosternum:
narrow between middle coxae, separated from metasternum by a transverse suture; forming the anterior part of the middle coxal cavities
short; abdominal sterna punctate, each puncture with pale seta; suture between sterna 1 and 2 obsolete medially.

Leg: short, robust; punctate, each puncture with pale seta; apex of mesotibia reaches beyond coxacoxa:
