Synonomys

None.

Type Species

Prosopodonta latipennis Pic.

Diagnosis

Odontispa can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

  • the lateral margins of the pronotumpronotum:
occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
and the elytra without long, stiff spines
  • the head without a frontal horn
  • the pronotumpronotum:
occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
with a seta in each anterior angle, finely margined, with lateral teeth
  • the apex of the elytra without a tooth-like projection
  • the elytra with 8 rows of punctures for entire length and 3 regular costae, humerus rounded without spine or tooth
  • the antennae thickened at apex, with 11-antennomeres
  • leg with apical tarsomere bearing 2 claws
  • anterior margin of prosternumprosternum:
    contains two anterior coxal cavities
    not expanding toward mouth

Description

Elytra much wider than pronotumpronotum:
occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
.

Head: vertexvertex:
occupies the area behind and between the eyes
smooth; fronsfrons:
upper anterior portion of head capsule above the clypeus
elongate, projecting between antennal bases; antennal insertion below midpoint of eyeeye:
elongate, slightly prominent, multifaceted; usually slightly kidney-shaped
.

Antenna: with 11-antennomeres; antennomere 3 longest; apical 5 antennomeres thickened.

Pronotum: strongly transverse, 2x as wide as long, convex; lateral margin bisinuate, tooth present in middle of lateral margin; disc smooth, strongly punctate laterally; basal impression present.

Scutellum: quadrate.

Elytron: much wider than pronotumpronotum:
occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
; short‑oval; lateral margin indented behind humerus; lateral and apical margins flattened, finely, sparsely dentate; humerus prominent; punctures large, shallow; interval 8 costate on apical ½; suture elevated.
