Type Species

Uroplata octopustulata Baly.

Diagnosis

Octuroplata can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

  • the lateral margins of the pronotumpronotum:
    occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
    and the elytra without long, stiff spines
  • the head without a frontal horn, fronsfrons:
    upper anterior portion of head capsule above the clypeus
    not projecting, vertexvertex:
    occupies the area behind and between the eyes
    without sulcus
  • the pronotumpronotum:
    occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
    with a seta in each anterior angle
  • the apex of the elytra without a tooth-like projection
  • the elytra with 8 rows of punctures for entire length plus short scutellar row, with 3 regular costae
  • the antennae thickened at apex, not clavate, with 8-antennomeres, last antennomere pointed at apex
  • the prosternumprosternum:
    contains two anterior coxal cavities
    does not expand anteriorly to partly cover the mouth

Description

Head: oblong, rounded anteriorly; vertexvertex:
occupies the area behind and between the eyes
without sulci; interocular impression present which becomes keel anteriorly; eyeeye:
elongate, slightly prominent, multifaceted; usually slightly kidney-shaped
slightly prominent; clypeusclypeus:
usually quadrangular, elongate; joined to the labrum
smooth, flat; fronsfrons:
upper anterior portion of head capsule above the clypeus
not projecting.

Antenna: with 8‑antennomeres; apical antennomere pointed.

Pronotum: transverse; laterally rounded; punctate.

Scutellum: oblong.

Elytron: with 8 rows of punctures plus scutellar row; tricostate (1, 2, 4) in anterior center, becomes 2 lines of sunken punctures and vestige of costa 3 on apical ½.

Leg: short; tarsal claws with tooth at base.

Distribution

Argentina, Brazil, French Guiana, Paraguay.
