Diagnosis

Nanocthispa can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

  • the lateral margins of the pronotumpronotum:
    occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
    and the elytra without long, stiff spines
  • the head without a frontal horn
  • the pronotumpronotum:
    occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
    with a seta in each anterior angle
  • the apex of the elytra without a tooth-like projection
  • the elytra with 8 rows of punctures for entire length plus a short scutellar row
  • the antennae thickened at apex, not clavate, with 7-antennomeres, antennomere 7 slightly pointed at apex, 2 1.5x length of 1
  • the prosternumprosternum:
    contains two anterior coxal cavities
    does not expand anteriorly to partly cover the mouth

Description

Head: vertexvertex:
occupies the area behind and between the eyes
finely punctate; opaque; with very fine pubescence; fronsfrons:
upper anterior portion of head capsule above the clypeus
depressed, concave, with some sulci; clypeusclypeus:
usually quadrangular, elongate; joined to the labrum
large, flat, less densely punctate than rest of head, subquadrate; eyeeye:
elongate, slightly prominent, multifaceted; usually slightly kidney-shaped
small, with carina behind.

Antenna: short, with 7‑antennomeres; antennomere 2 1.5x the length of 1.

Pronotum: subcylindrical; transversely convex.

Scutellum: small, quadrangular; angle rounded.

Elytron: parallel-sided; apex conjointly rounded, with 2 small teeth; with 8 rows of punctures plus scutellar row; tricostate, all unite at apex.

Distribution

Argentina.
