Diagnosis

Jambhala can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

• lateral margin of pronotumpronotum:
  occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
  and elytra with long, stiff spines
• antennomere 1 without spine
• pronotum pronotum:
  occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
  with anterior margin with bifurcate spine on each side
• elytra expanding apically, disc with spines, humerus with 4 to 5 saw-like teeth
• tarsal claws not fused, symmetrical

Description

Body broad; subconvex; color reddish-yellow with black spines and black spot at base of each spine; total length 4.7 to 5.3 mm.

Head: wide; convex; vertexvertex:
occupies the area behind and between the eyes
finely punctate, with medial sulcus; eyeeye:
elongate, slightly prominent, multifaceted; usually slightly kidney-shaped
large, convex.

Antenna: more than ½ body length; filiform; with 11-antennomeres; antennomere 1 incrassate, 2½x length of 2, without spine; 2 obconic; 3 to 10 cylindrical, decreasing in length; 11 1½x length of 10, bluntly pointed at apex.

Pronotum: transverse; lateral margin sinuate, with 3 spines on a common base (3); anterior angle rounded; anterior margin curved forward, with bifurcate spine on each side; posterior angle acute; posterior margin weakly bisinuate; surface finely punctate, finely setose.

Scutellum: broadly triangular.

Elytron: lateral margin expanding apically, with large and small spines; exterior apical angle and apical margin rounded, irregularly serrate; humerus rounded, produced, with 4 to 5 saw-like lateral and backwardly-curved teeth; with 10 rows of punctures plus scutellar row at base, expanding to 14 rows; disc with spines; surface glabrous.

Leg: long; slender; mesotibia straight; tarsal claws not fused, symmetrical.
