Diagnosis

Euprionota can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:

  • the lateral margins of the pronotumpronotum:
    occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
    and the elytra without long, stiff spines
  • the head without a frontal horn, vertexvertex:
    occupies the area behind and between the eyes
    with 3 to 5 sulci
  • the pronotumpronotum:
    occupies all of dorsal part of the prothorax; in anterior angles or posterior angles there may be a small tubercle or pore with a seta
    with a seta in each anterior angle
  • the apex of the elytra without a tooth-like projection
  • the elytra with 8 rows of punctures for entire length and 3 regular costae, lateral and apical margins of elytra denticulate, exterior apical angle with strong tooth
  • the antennae thickened at apex, not clavate, with 8-antennomeres
  • the prosternumprosternum:
    contains two anterior coxal cavities
    does not expand anteriorly to partly cover the mouth

Description

Head: vertexvertex:
occupies the area behind and between the eyes
with 3 to 5 longitudinal sulci.

Antenna: with 8‑antennomeres; reaching to middle of elytra; antennomeres 1 to 7 short, slightly compressed laterally; 8 wider, compressed laterally.

Scutellum: quadrate.

Pronotum: transverse; lateral margin sinuate, narrowing anteriorly; basal margin as wide as base of elytra.

Elytron: expanding apically; lateral and apical margins strongly denticulate, teeth alternately large and small on apex; exterior apical angle with strong, laminate tooth; tricostate, costa 1 strong, entire, more elevated at base.

Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, México, Nicaragua.
