Carinispa can be distinguished by the following combination of characters:
Head: vertexvertex:
occupies the area behind and between the eyes
trisulcate, impunctate; fronsfrons:
upper anterior portion of head capsule above the clypeus
projecting.
Antenna: with 8‑antennomeres; antennomere 1 subglobular; 2 transverse; 3 to 5 cylindrical; 6 to 7 transverse; 8 pointed at apex.
Pronotum: wider than long, widest at base, convex, densely punctate; basal impression present; tooth present in anterior angle.
Scutellum: quadrate.
Elytron: lateral margin sparsely dentate; apical margin dentate; with 8 regular rows of punctures; tricostate, costae weakly carinate.
