Zollingeria dongnaiensis

Zollingeria dongnaiensis Pierre, Bull. Soc. Linn. Paris 1: 634 (1886).

Description

Fruits of Z. dongnaiensis are sold in the potpourri trade as “wild tulip flowers.” These samaras (winged achenes) are 3-4 cm long x 1.5-2.5 cm wide with three wings, 7-12 mm wide. Often the wings are frayed into broad bristles in processing, resembling a feather, at other times the wings may be curled and wrapped around the achene, resembling a tiny eggroll or springroll.

Nativity and distribution

Zollingeria dongnaiensis is native to Thailand and Vietnam.
