Sterculia macrophylla Vent., Jardin de la Malmaison 2: t. 91 (1805).

Description

Fruits of what appear to be S. macrphylla are sold in the potpourri trade as “masai crown.” Follicles are boat-shaped, typically green to brown on the exterior, shiny and orange to brown on the interior, very faintly ribbed and anastomosing on both surfaces, 3-8 cm long and about as wide, held in clusters of one to five follicles but broken apart for sale.

Nativity and distribution

Sterculia macrophylla is native to Thailand through Malesia.
