Spondias pinnata (J. König ex L.f.) Kutz, Prelim. Rep. forest Pegu appendix 44. t. B, 42 (1875).

Description

Fruits of Spondias pinnata are very common in imported potpourri and sold as “amra pods.” The exocarp has been removed before bleaching and/or dyeing, leaving a fine reticulation on the woody endocarp; this might be described as a pecan with a hairnet, 3-5 cm long x 2-2.5 cm wide.

Nativity and distribution

Spondias pinnata is native to China, India, and southeast Asia.
