Quercus ilex L., Sp. Pl. 2: 995 (1753).

Description

Leaves of the holly oak are thick, simple leaves but vary considerably in the margins, from entire to spiny (mucronate-dentate or spinose-serrate), smooth above, gray-tomentose and with prominent veins beneath, acute tip, ca. 3-7 cm long x 3-4 cm wide, on a 6-15 mm petiole.

Nativity and distribution

Quercus ilex is native to Europe, Turkey, and north Africa.
