Pinus ponderosa Douglas ex Lawson & C. Lawson, Agric. Man. 354 (1836).
Cones of the ponderosa or western yellow pine are broadly egg-shaped, 5-15 cm long, mostly reddish brown.
Pinus ponderosa is native to central and western North America.
