Annona squamosa L., Sp. Pl. 1: 537 (1753).

Description

Custard-fruit is called ata or atta fruit in the potpourri trade. The dried multiple, subglobose fruits resemble knobby, closed pine cones and vary from 1.5 to 5 cm wide. Slices of this fruit are round, daisy-like pinwheels, often filled with black seeds that are 1-1.5 cm long.

Nativity and distribution

Annona squamosa is probably native to the West Indies but widely cultivated in the tropics for its fruit.
