Diagnostic Features of Larvae
- Larva. In general similar to Semanotus amethystinus, though smaller, differing in that the genal bristles are not so numerous; the pronotum is less rugose; the ampullae are entirely finely granulate, dull; and the last ventral ampulla lacks the lateral corneous plates. Pupa: Arrangement of spines as in S. amethystinus, but scarcely chitinized and each having a bristle. Adapted from Craighead (1923).
Biology and Economic Importance
- Members of this tribe are known from various host plant families and several species are considered economically important. Species of this tribe are potentially invasive outside their native range.
